Start with a Conversation
A chat over the phone is the simplest way to glean the finer details of your event, and gain a clear understanding of the subject matter which will have the most impact on your audience. My 15-minute strategy call is free-of-charge and there are no obligations for either of us to agree to move forward. After the call, I will produce a bespoke proposal determined by our conversation, and email it to you for your information and consideration. When you’re ready, simply email me with your decision.
When I first began offering strategy calls, it became very apparent that many planners that were reaching out for help, had no idea what to expect from these introductory calls, and in some cases, were intimidated by the idea of talking with a potential Speaker. In an effort to help you feel at ease, to ensure you get immediate value from our conversation, and assist you in finding the right Coach, I decided to create this guide for choosing the best Coach for you. I hope you find it useful.
Prepare for Your Call
Our strategy call will last around 15–minutes, because it’s simply about exploration. During our conversation I will ask you some questions to uncover your expectations and understand your event in detail.
Prior to any strategy call, I encourage you to write down any questions you may have. For example:
- Is there a coaching framework?
- What platform will we use?
- What is the length of a coaching session?
- How often will we have coaching sessions?
- What is the cost of a coaching session?
- Are there any discounts available?
- How do you book the sessions?
- Does anything happen between sessions?
- How long will it take to get results?
I encourage you to talk with a few Coaches before making a decision and committing to your favourite one. Feeling a connection with your potential Coach is a powerful starting point, enabling you to move forward with confidence. However, this should not by your only deciding factor. Take the time to read Client testimonials, success stories, certifications, and how the Coach normally interacts with their Clients.
What to Consider
What is it you want help with? Getting clarity could be the first goal you work on with your chosen Coach. When you are clear on what you wish to achieve and what is important to you, then you can look for those qualities or skill set in a Coach.
Here are a few specific situations that may call for the services of a Coach:
- You need help moving forward in a particular area of your life or career
- You are struggling to maintain a good work-life balance
- You want to learn how to get the most out of your talents and strengths
- You require help making a major life decision, such as a career move or change
- You experience a lot of stress and/or have trouble focusing
- You lack confidence/self-esteem and would like to be motivated
- You need help with a pressing situation where the stakes are high
- You must improve your time management skills
- You dream of simplifying your life in order to be more productive and minimise stress
What kind of Coach do you need? There’s a Coach for every area of life: business, career, success, relationships, health, fitness, holistic, new age, relaxation, healing and crystals. What would suit you and your style? Humour might be important, candour, insights, intuition, or being challenged. There are many styles and types of Coaches to choose from.

Ask Yourself This
Did you feel chemistry with the Coach? This is essential. You have to like and trust your Coach, or the process won’t work. If you feel it’s a mismatch of personality or you don’t trust them, try another Coach. Equally, the Coach may say that they don’t see the relationship being a good fit and may recommend you find another Coach.
What’s your gut feeling? You should feel optimistic, thrilled, excited and really engaged with the idea of working with a Coach. Coaching is a serious business, but it can also be fun, enlightening and deeply life changing. You should feel truly joyous when working with the Coach of your choice. It’s your life, so choose the right Coach, to make it truly awesome.
Did you feel understood? Some coaches will use A-Z programmes, whilst others will customise to suit your needs, your goals, and your personality. There are Coaches that will only offer accountability, whilst others focus on nuturing. No matter what you choose, you will want to feel understood, supported and reassured that you are in really safe hands whilst you are changing your life.
What results has the Coach achieved in their own life? A great Coach will have plenty of life stories because of their own journey. Whilst most Coaches have been trained and practice strategies and techniques which are known to be effective, finding the right Coach is ultimately a question of synergy. Use free introductory calls to determine if you and the Coach are a great match.
Finally, how much do you want to pay? All coaching is an investment in yourself, but you must also be prepared to invest in emotional equity too. It’s important to understand that you are paying for years of expertise which can help you to overcome limiting beliefs. With just a little research you’ll realise that a Coach can cost as little as £40 per session, and as much as £500 per session. Ask yourself what your challenges are costing you and what you’re prepared to pay to overcome them?
